So straight from the cottage Tristan headed off to Kingston to help Ben Benvie photograph a couple weddings, while I drove to Peterborough where I used to go to school to photograph Susie and Aaron Clarke’s wedding. Sus is the captain and founder of the Trent Dance Team, and so we met a few years ago at the auditions for the teams first year. Sus was someone I instantly liked, I think because she reminded me of my high school math tutor (who saved my life on several occasions). A couple years later she asked myself and Lindsay Williams to be co-captains with her because the other coach was finished school. I have to say though as ass-cap. I didn’t do much. Sus and Linds were the brains and work behind the team. I just had a cool title. Anyways Lindsay was one of Susie’s bridesmaids so I stayed with her in town for the weekend which was as entertaining as it promised to be. I remember the year I was leaving Trent at the dance team semi formal, Sus and Linds said goodbye while warning everyone on the team to book me now for their weddings. They have always been so supportive and so Susie’s wedding was the first long awaited TDT wedding! Sus and Aaron have been together for a long time now, and decided to have their wedding in Aaron’s parents backyard. It couldn’t have been cuter and more them. So simple and so beautiful, it was all about their marriage and being with the people important to them. I mentioned earlier on the blog that I usually cry during the speeches. This time, for the first time, I almost cried when Susie put on her dress. She looked so lovely and so happy. It was a very rainy weekend and the ceremony ended up being crammed under one small tent. Susie says it the best though, it was such an intimate ceremony everyone close together like that. The rain didn’t take anything away from the happiness of that day. For a small amount of time the clouds parted and we ran out to a field by the house for just a few simple portraits and then it was back to the party… which lasted all night. Aaron’s parents and their neighbours had opened the gate between the two backyards so the wedding was spread out over two properties. Because of the rain the dancing ended up under the tent as well and not the dance floor the Clarkes had built, but around 3am people started dancing in the mud and rain on the actual dance floor! This was the first wedding where I stayed longer than the Bride and Groom, being a friend of the bride/guests. Lindsay and I danced in the rain until 5am before we finally made it home, not without lots to reminisce about.
